2021 Year in Review 

What a year 2021!

Once again, as was the case in 2020, COVID-19 caused the Bucks County Chapter to replace our popular in-person events with virtual alternatives for both the art show and raising funds for cancer research.  And once again the fundraising response from our sponsors, donors, and artists exceeded expectations.     

As a result, the Bucks County Chapter of the Board of Associates of Fox Chase Cancer Center presented a $90,000 check to Dr. Israel Cañadas to benefit his small cell lung cancer (SCLC) research project at Fox Chase Cancer Center, which was targeted for the 2021 special research project pledge and art show funding.  SCLC is the most lethal type of lung cancer, but it is unique because it initially responds well to chemotherapy.  However, at relapse, which occurs early for most patients, it is resistant to all available therapies and will eventually cause premature death of patients in less than 12 months.  Israel Cañadas, assistant professor in the Blood Cell Development and Function Program at Fox Chase.  Attending the donation presentation are: (L-R) Rose Mary Gruccio, Rhea Brown, Denise Marshall, Lillian O’Connor, Lee Beyer, Dr. Israel Cañadas, Barbara O’Donnell, Carolyn Kozakowski.

 The 24th Annual Art Show and Sale, in memory of George Bramhall, with proceeds benefiting small cell lung cancer research at Fox Chase Cancer Center, was run virtually from October 1 thru November 30, 2021.  Each artist is generously contributed 35% of their art sales at the event.  Additionally, raffle tickets were purchased for a chance to win one of more than 18 works of art donated by the participating artists. Patrons can apply their raffle tickets to specific work(s) of fine art providing a high chance of winning their favorite!  As you can imagine, over the past 2 years we have learned much about managing and benefiting from virtual arts shows which we intend to improve on for the 2022 art show.
